Houston Trip - December 12th

Well, we just got back from Houston last night from my Mom's round of testing. This time was not great news but it could have been worse.

My Mom was taken off the chemo trial that she has been on for the last few months. The doctors do not feel that it is working anymore. So, they feel it is best to take her off it and decide what treatment she should do next. We will go back the first week in January to meet with doctors that do the experimental trials, to see if there is a trial that she could qualify for and that could possibly work for her. Right now the doctor wanted her to take a break until then and gave her some medicine that will hopefully subside the numbness and tingling in her feet & hands.

Her CT scan & X-rays showed a few things. Her tumor on her pancreas has slightly grown since her last scan. The spots on her liver are stable and have not changed. These are barely visible now. Her tumor marker (this is a blood test) had raised some since the last round of testing, it is still better than when she originally started the treatments. And finally, there was a small spot on her left lung, that was not there before. The doctor showed us the x-rays of the lungs, and gave us the measurements of this spot. He said that he could not confirm 100% it was a tumor growth, but he was pretty sure it was. It was not a blood vessel, and the spot had not been there in prior x-rays. He said my Mom's body could not feel the spot nor would effect her activity any way.

So this was our trip. Obviously not the news we were hoping for, but hopefully the meds will help my Mom's hands and feet and she will gain some strength for the chemo she will have next.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and thank you for the continued love and support.
